Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers and Health & Family Welfare
The fertilizer industry is undergoing a significant transformation through the adoption of advanced technologies aimed at enhancing efficiency, sustainability, and productivity. The Government is promoting the integration of precision agriculture tools, including satellite imaging, remote sensing, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), to enable site-specific nutrient management. These technologies facilitate real-time monitoring of soil health, crop requirements, and weather conditions, thereby ensuring optimal fertilizer application and minimizing wastage. Such initiatives are aligned with the objective of achieving balanced fertilization and improving agricultural output while conserving natural resources.
The development and promotion of innovative fertilizer products such as nano fertilizers, customized fertilizers, and bio-fertilizers are being actively supported. Nano fertilizers, in particular, offer higher nutrient use efficiency and reduced environmental impact compared to conventional fertilizers. Research and development initiatives are being strengthened through collaboration between public institutions, private enterprises, and research organizations to foster innovation and indigenous manufacturing capabilities. This approach is expected to reduce import dependency and support the vision of self-reliance in the fertilizer sector.
Moreover, digital transformation initiatives such as mobile applications and farmer-centric portals are being implemented to disseminate information on best practices, soil health, and fertilizer usage. The Government is also leveraging blockchain technology for improving traceability and ensuring the authenticity of fertilizer products across the supply chain. Capacity-building programs and training initiatives are being undertaken to equip stakeholders, including farmers and industry personnel, with the necessary skills to effectively utilize these advanced technologies.
