Minister of State for Chemicals and fertilizers and Health & Family Welfare
The adoption of advanced technologies in the fertilizer industry is playing a crucial role in modernizing the sector, enhancing nutrient efficiency, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. These efforts are in line with national priorities of ensuring food security, environmental protection, and inclusive growth in the agricultural sector.
The Government is also facilitating the modernization of fertilizer manufacturing units through the adoption of energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable technologies. Advanced process optimization systems, including real-time data analytics and automation, are being implemented to enhance production efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Initiatives such as the adoption of green ammonia and hydrogen-based production technologies are being explored to transition towards low-carbon fertilizer manufacturing. These measures are aligned with national commitments towards climate change mitigation and sustainable industrial development.
In order to strengthen the logistics and distribution network, the Government is promoting the use of digital tracking systems, GPS-enabled transportation, and integrated supply chain platforms. These technologies enable real-time monitoring of fertilizer movement from production units to retail points, ensuring timely availability and reducing leakages and diversion. The introduction of e marketplaces and unified digital platforms is further enhancing accessibility and enabling efficient allocation of resources across regions.
The use of drone technology is also being increasingly encouraged for fertilizer application, particularly for nano and liquid fertilizers. Drones facilitate precise and uniform spraying, reduce labor dependency, and improve operational efficiency, especially in remote and difficult terrains. Government-supported pilot projects and subsidy schemes are being implemented to scale up the adoption of drone-based nutrient application, thereby promoting precision farming practices.
The Government is emphasizing data-driven policymaking in the fertilizer sector. The integration of big data analytics and centralized databases allows for better assessment of consumption patterns, subsidy requirements, and regional imbalances. This supports evidence-based decision-making and enhances the effectiveness of policy interventions. The use of digital dashboards and monitoring tools further enables continuous evaluation of schemes and programs.
